Women’s empowerment is essential for the health and social development of families, communities and countries. Educated women are more likely to participate in workplaces, earn higher incomes, and contribute their skills to the workforce. Women empowerment in higher education institutions involves providing women with access to education, removing barriers, and creating a safe and supportive environment.

The ultimate objective of our college is to emerge as a premier institution dedicated to women’s education, fostering academic excellence and empowering students to become confident, compassionate and responsible global citizens. For achieving this, we provide a supportive and inclusive learning environment we strive to nurture the holistic development of our students, equipping them with the skills, knowledge and values necessary to succeed in their chosen careers and make a positive impact in society. The following measures are adopted in our college:

Provide access: Ensure that women have access to education and technology by offering a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs that foster interdisciplinary learning, enabling students to explore connections between different subjects and develop a more nuanced understanding of the world.

Remove barriers: Remove gender barriers and create a safe and supportive environment. The Women Studies Cell, NCC, NSS and Rotaract Units of our college organizes various gender equity educational activities like rallies, nukkad naatikas etc. for community awareness thereby contributing to abolish gender stereotypes from the society.

Promote scholarships: Provide scholarships, incentives, and mentoring to women students. In addition to university and government scholarships, our college offers additional scholarships to deserving as well as needy girls. Father-less students are given full fee concession by the college for continuing their education. Some of the faculty members adopt under-priviledged students and staff fund is also collected to help students from economically weaker section.

Provide counseling: Provide counseling and coaching to women students. Faculty members visit various villages near Yamuna Nagar twice a year for career counseling to the senior secondary students. They are made aware of the indispensability of higher studies for professional growth and thus motivated to further pursue education. Even the college Principal and Director personally visit them and reassure safe and quality higher education to girls who would have otherwise dropped out after secondary school education.

Provide skill education: Our institution organizes variety of certificate courses in collaboration with various Government and non-government agencies to provide students with hands-on experience through internships, projects and community engagement, preparing them for the challenges of the real world. Home Science department of the college organizes various entrepreneurship development stalls and events to make the girls self-reliant and enhancing their morale as budding entrepreneurs.

Address challenges: Address challenges such as the conflict between family and career responsibilities, fear of failure and difficulty integrating into male-dominated social circles. We are committed to imparting education that is rooted in the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, emphasizing the importance of compassion, honesty and social responsibility. Our institution is dedicated to providing a safe, supportive and inclusive environment that encourages women to pursue their academic and professional goals. Our institution is committed to giving back to society through various community engagement initiatives, encouraging students to develop a sense of social responsibility.

Institutional Distinctiveness (2022-23)

Guru Nanak Girls College is the only college of Yamuna Nagar district offering integrated B.A.-B.Ed. and B.Sc.-B.Ed. course since 2018. This integrated program equips future teachers for nation-building in accordance with UGC and NCTE criteria. The B.A.-B.Ed. and B.Sc.-B.Ed. is a four-year undergraduate dual degree program that combines a Bachelor of Humanities or Science and a Bachelor of Education into one integrated package. The ultimate aim of this course is provision of theoretical knowledge and practical abilities in a variety of science fields, as well as problem-solving skills amongst its students who are the prospective teachers of our nation. Another feather in the cap of this program is sixteen week internship program of observation in schools for hands on realistic experiences and improvisation of practical aptitude among the students of this program thereby strengthening students’ experiential knowledge.
This course holds a pivotal importance for our rural meritorious students who undergo this course and can be financially independent one year ahead than their single degree doer counterparts. Our college has done the best possible efforts to provide conducive-learning environment to these young aspirants and making this program successful as per new NEP guidelines.
The dogged pursuit of excellence and the ardent craving to gain quality has led the college to carve a distinctive area of interest for itself inside the country of Haryana. The college takes delight in being one of the residential girl’s colleges in Yamunanagar. The residential blocks feature 2 hostels each with the capacity of housing up to 100-100 students. In house hostel facilitate students with good accommodation and other daily basic necessities including safety, food, etc. Which are always be well organised and updated time to time qualitatively considering students need.
